Nicotine strength is printed three different ways depending on the product: percent on disposable vapes, mg (per mL) on e-liquid, and mg per pouch on nicotine pouches. They are not directly comparable, which is why the labels confuse people. This guide lays out what each one means and which strengths we carry at NW Vape Supply Co. in Bothell, WA.
The quick answer
- Disposable vapes: 5% is the standard. 2% and 0% (nicotine-free) are also available.
- Freebase e-liquid: low strengths, mostly 3 mg and 6 mg.
- Nic salt e-liquid: high strengths, from 25 mg to 50 mg.
- Nicotine pouches: measured per pouch, from 3 mg to 12 mg.
How percent and mg per mL line up
For e-liquid and disposables, percent and mg per mL are two ways of writing the same thing: 1% equals 10 mg per mL. So a 5% disposable is 50 mg, and a 2% disposable is 20 mg. That is why you often see a Geek Bar listed as "50mg" and the same strength called "5%" elsewhere.
Disposable vapes: 5%, 2% and 0%
Most disposables in our disposable vape collection are 5% nic salt. If you want a lower concentration, we carry 2% disposables, and if you want the flavor without nicotine, see nicotine-free disposables.
Freebase e-liquid: 3 mg and 6 mg
Freebase is the traditional vape juice used in refillable tanks and higher-wattage devices. Because it hits harder at the same strength, it is sold at lower concentrations. Most of our online e-liquid comes in 3 mg and 6 mg.
Nic salt e-liquid: 25 mg to 50 mg
Nic salts use a form of nicotine that feels smoother at high strengths, so they are made for low-wattage pod systems. Online strengths in our nic salt collection run 25 mg, 30 mg, 35 mg and 50 mg depending on the brand. Do not put nic salt in a device meant for freebase, and follow the device maker's guidance.
Nicotine pouches: mg per pouch
Pouch strength is the nicotine in each pouch, not per mL. We carry ZYN and Rogue in 3 mg and 6 mg, Lucy in 4, 8 and 12 mg, Alp from 3 mg to 12 mg, and Velo Peppermint in 3 mg and 6 mg. See the nicotine pouch collection or our pouch comparison.
Common questions
Is 5% the same as 50 mg?
Yes. 1% is 10 mg per mL, so 5% is 50 mg per mL.
What strength should a first-time user pick?
That depends on the product and the person. Start at the lower end for that product type, and ask our staff if you are unsure. We would rather talk you out of the wrong strength than sell it to you.
Can I use nic salt in a freebase device?
No. Nic salt is meant for low-wattage pod systems and vape pens. Check your device's guidance before buying.
